Well, sheeit.
YOU ARE VISITING THE OLD MALKIN(S)WATCH. THAT'S FANTASTIC. PLEASE VISIT THE NEW MALKIN(S)WATCH WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE.
Remember how I was late for work one post back?
I never made it. Got out to my apartment parking lot and found that my car was gone. As in stolen. With two years worth of work-related papers and (because I'm too stupid for words) a social security card and birth certificate. So I spent all day wrangling rental cars, replacement documents, and in line at the Social Security Administration who - guess what - don't take any documents worth mentioning. Geez, sorry I forgot to bring a medical insurance statement. Guess I should have realized that a birth certificate is worthless as identification.
What I can't figure out is, why would they possibly want a *Honda Civic hatchback? Especially a grey one? With a book full of CDs? I just can't put my finger on a motive.
Update: Well, they found my car. And it's only going to cost $146.48 for the towing fee - and there's not all that much damage, it sounds like, although we'll find out soon which means that with a $250 deductible (and the potential for identity theft) and it's just not my day.
Update 2: Amazing. Nothing of value was stolen. ID cards still there - $1500 worth of CDs still there. The only thing gone was the backpack that had all my work papers - which were stacked, almost neatly, on the passenger seat.
Thanks for all the good wishes. And thank whatever star allowed my car to be stolen not all that far from one of the highest meth areas in the Portland area and be returned almost** as good as new.

*snark starts here.
**Anyone have a Honda Civic steering column they want to send over? Heh.
